Maalimin school – an attractive learning environment is gaining ground fast
The Maalimin Primary School in Garissa County has a new face, thanks to the efforts of the Africa Pastoralists Empowerment Organization (APEO) and the Maalimin Development Association.
In collaboration with the school’s management and parents, APEO helped rehabilitate all the learning facilities for the children. The school’s new blue-themed color palette gives it a distinctive and welcoming appearance.
Student Enrollment:
By the end of the first semester of 2025, the school had enrolled 233 students, 67% of whom were girls.
During a visit on April 19, 2025, APEO leadership observed great enthusiasm among the students, parents, and teachers. Excitement is expected to grow further as the school reopens for the second term in May 2025.
The improved learning conditions have already attracted students from other schools, particularly from pastoralist families. These students often move with their parents in search of pasture and water during school breaks.
With ongoing improvements, the school anticipates a significant increase in student enrolment in the near future.
