The Maalimin health center maternity wing ward received a major rehabilitation in April 2025. This was made possible by funding from the Garissa County Government with the advocacy and technical support of APEO’s. The rehabilitation of the previously debilitated ward is a significant boost to improving mother and child health at the health center. Women now have a safe and well-equipped delivery facility with antenatal services. A 5000 cubic meter tank dedicated to the unit will enhance cleanliness and hygienic conditions. The maternity ward, originally rehabilitated in May 2005, typically handles 8–12 delivery cases per month, with many patients coming from areas beyond the Maalimin settlement. The upgraded maternity ward now provides a clean environment for safe deliveries, enhancing the services provided to the community. The Maalimin health center continues to serve as a beacon of health and hope for many. Additional works are needed, including fencing the entire hospital to improve safety and security. APEO will support this effort by seeking more funding from the Garissa County Government and its development partners.
