In December 2023, APEO partnered with a local community-based organization (Search for a Common Ground) in a process towards building relations between state security agents and the public in immediate neighborhoods in Garissa Township. This was in constituency with history of extreme violence. The organization convened meetings between security stakeholders and local people. The outcome was rewarding. A police post and standing peace committees in all the locations of the concerned wards were established. These interventions enhanced security enormously. Similar peace-building activities are conducted by APEO regularly. This are occasioned in many rural areas by dwindling resources that have increased tensions and conflict, as pastoralist communities travelled further in search of food and water into areas that are not their usual residency, hence leading to inter-communal clashes. .
