Partnership initiative
The Partnership initiative of APEO is aims at three achieving four important goals: a) scaling impact - more beneficiaries of our interventions, b) sustaining impacts - ensuring the gains made go beyond project’s life, c) bringing on board innovations and good practices - ‘do not re-invent the wheel’, learn from others and deploy technology to bring about efficiency of operations, and d) mobilize resources to support projects and operations of the organization. To this end, APEO has developed strategic partnership with several organizations, and is continuously deepening relationship with them and also bringing on board new ones. Some of our partners include: -The National Government (Kenya) - we work very closely with several ministries and departments, most notably the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development -The Garissa County - we assist the government in rolling various programs: food security, water resources development, education, and economic empowerment of rural communities -Garissa University, Kenya - joint research and training programs -The Kenya Agricultural Research and Livestock Organization - assist with the acquisition of improved seeds and planting that build resiliency to climate change; conduct adaptive research -The Kenya Forestry Research Institute - assist with appropriate species of trees and shrubs, including indigenous species, for landscape level afforestation and natural resource management -ICRISAT: International Center for Research in Semi-Arid Tropics - provided seeds of several drought tolerant crops -United Nations agencies - UNICEF, UNITAR, FAO, and WFP -Non-Governmental Organizations - most notably Adeso, Search for Common Ground, Regional Pastoralist Peace Link (Isiolo County), among others -The donor community, particularly the Islamic Development Bank -The Private Sector, most notably Tana Gardens Hotel in Garissa -The community in our operational areas - they contribute generously to projects execution, including setting aside land required for the development of common facilities. -Volunteers in projects operations - several, and particularly, product support in our projects executions on voluntary basis We are very grateful to all partners. Together, we shall go far in transforming for the better the lives and livelihoods of the pastoralists in the drylands of Kenya and elsewhere in the world.
